The 2019 federal election will be an opportunity for all Canadians to assess four years of Justin Trudeau’s leadership. The Liberal government has failed Canadians and the people of South Surrey – White Rock on issues that are important to them.
Despite inheriting a surplus budget and stable economic conditions, every budget the Trudeau government has delivered has been in deficit and continuous deficits are now forecast for as long into the future as forecasts are made. Current projections are for deficits to continue beyond the year 2040. At the same time business confidence in Canada is waning and failed leadership is causing private investment to withdraw from resource projects that are critical to Canada’s future economic prosperity.
The Trudeau government has brought wedge politics to a new level. The most concerning example of this is the Canada Summer Jobs Grant Program where over 1000 community organizations were denied funding because they refused to surrender their most basic rights (thought, belief and expression) and attest agreement with Justin Trudeau’s personal beliefs.
Punishing Local MPs Who Speak Up
Justin Trudeau punished the only Liberal MP who said the Canada Summer Jobs Attestation was “insensitive” and would negatively affect good organizations in his riding that did “non-political, non-activist work”. For speaking up for his local constituents, Liberal MP Scott Simms was removed as Chair of the House Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans.
Wherever there are potential votes there are flowery words from Justin Trudeau. But Canadians now realize that they can’t rely on his word. In the last election campaign, he promised injured Canadian soldiers that he would ensure that no veteran would have to fight the government for the support and compensation they had earned. After becoming Prime Minister, however, he quickly changed course and blamed veterans for asking for more than his government could give them.
